摘要
Some of the salient points pertaining to the use of bacteriorhodopsin are reviewed. The basic photochemistry of the photochromism and photoisomerisation in bacteriorhodopsin is emphasised. Methods for immobilising the purple membrane in polymer matrices facilitating the fabrication of thin films are also discussed. Finally, a summary of the most common applications in optical processing is presented.
