SILOXANE AND POLYURETHANE PHOTOINIFERTERS AND BLOCK GRAFT-COPOLYMERS MADE THEREFROM

The pioneering work of Otsu described a unique method to prepare a wide variety of block copolymers. The intermediates in these block copolymer syntheses are macromolecular iniferters or macroiniferters. This paper describes the extension of this chemistry to block copolymers combining block segments often of widely different chemistry, e.g., polyurethanes with vinyls and acrylics, and silicones with acrylics. These polymers can be synthesized with high conversions (>90%) and high molecular weights.
