A near‐optimum impedance transition with one discontinuity consisting of a combination of the techniques proposed by Hecken and Klopfenstein is described. The aim is to utilize the attractive features of the two methods and to combine them in an alternative impedance matching technique that might be used in the design of wideband antenna elements with low return loss.
