A series of complexes [(L)AuCl] of gold(I) with fluorophosphorus(III) ligands L was obtained by displacing tetrahydrothiophene (tht) from the complex [(tht)AuCl] with the appropriate ligand. The products were characterised by F-19 and P-31 n.m.r. spectroscopy and in two cases by single crystal X-ray studies. The molecule of [(Me2NPF2)AuCl] 3 displays crystallographic mirror symmetry, with short Au...Au contacts (334 pm) between molecules. In [(2,5-Me2C6H3PF2)AuCl] 2 there is no imposed symmetry and the shortest Au...Au contacts are 370 pm.
