CULTURAL CHARACTERIZATION OF BONE OBJECTS FOUND IN ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES OF CIMARRONES IN PINAR DEL RIO

This article is about the cultural nature of bone objects found in archaeological sites of maroons in Pinar del Rio, utilizing functional morphology and morphometry to determine use. We have called the material evidence studied "bone needles", some with decorations that seemingly had a multifunctional use (personal adornment and cosmetic) or as brooches or hairpins. They belong to the material culture of the slaves of Yoruba and Bantu origin, who became maroons during slavery times. Our objective is to increase our knowledge on the way of life of the maroons and their material culture in the hidden places of the mountains of Pinar del Rio. Archaeological studies have shown that the bone industry is worthy to be evaluated for its role in the framework of popular customs in the different cultures of humanity.
