摘要
This paper deals with the question whether we can "see atoms" and reflects on this from different scientific perspectives. Chemical and physical explanations about the functioning of the scanning tunnel microscopy technique are given on different levels. Additionally, educational and epistemological points of view are discussed, both for chemistry teaching and teacher education.
