Endangered bryophytes in Northeast China can be divided into three types according to different circumstances: (1) species described as new to science based on specimens collected in Northeast China which have lost or are losing their habitats in the original localities; (2) rare species threatened by rapid development of the economy and population; and (3) species which are abundant at present, but may become endangered because of habitat degradation. Conservation of endangered bryophytes is suggested by means of (1) publishing a list of endangered bryophytes in Northeast China; (2) establishing some specified protected areas for endangered bryophytes within nature reserve areas; (3) initiating more research on bryophytes in order better to understand the endangered bryophytes and protect them.
