DOCUMENT INDEXING FOR IMAGE-BASED OPTICAL INFORMATION-SYSTEMS

An optical disk system containing bit-mapped images was developed to preserve, access, and disseminate military documents. This system maintains the intrinsic and legal informational value of the documents, which are accessed by subject matter and concordance term indexes created, converts the tables of contents and other information to ASCII. It enables the reconstruction of a regulation for any given time period. Results of eighty-seven test evaluators proved that the CD-ROM optical disk system effective. An overall review of image-based optical systems indexing is included.
