摘要
The electronic spreadsheet, a primary tool for business modeling, is an excellent means for implementing mathematical algorithms and mathematical models on a computer, and for studying and teaching a diverse variety of mathematical concepts. Using a spreadsheet to teach mathematical concepts provides both students and teachers with different mathematical insights and ideas, encourages new ways of thinking, stimulates intellectual creativity, and provides experience in using a tool with intrinsic practical value. This paper provides illustrations of how spreadsheets can be used creatively in diverse areas of mathematics. First, educational uses of spreadsheets for working with concepts, representations, and algorithms coming directly from mathematics are discussed in combination with the effective use of graphics. The next focus is on the use of spreadsheets for mathematical modeling in such applied areas as the physical, biological, and social sciences. The third emphasis centres on spreadsheet graphics and geometrically oriented educational applications.
