Facile synthesis of bayberry-like In2O3 architectures derived from metal organic framework for rapid trimethylamine detection at low operating temperature

For the rapid and accurate detection of trimethylamine (TMA) hazardous gases, a metal organic framework (MOF) derived bayberry-like In2O3 architectures gas sensor was successfully prepared by a rapid and facile hydrothermal synthesis (30 min) and subsequent precise annealing process. The gas sensitivity test results show that the MOF-derived bayberry-like In2O3 sensor has a low operating temperature of 120 °C, a response value of 23.2 to 20 ppm trimethylamine, a fast response speed of 1.4 s, and good selectivity and stability. In addition, the gas-sensing mechanism of the sample is discussed. It is considered that the unique MOF-derived bayberry-like architectures and the abundance of oxygen vacancies are the main reasons for its excellent gas-sensing performance. A possible growth mechanism is proposed by observing the morphological evolution of the samples at different stages. With excellent gas sensitivity, the MOF-derived bayberry-like In2O3 architectures sensor will be an outstanding candidate for TMA gas detection application, seafood freshness detection, and renal disease detection.
