Het NHG heeft patient empowerment benoemd tot een van de speerpunten voor 2014. Dit artikel gaat in op empowerment en daaraan gerelateerde begrippen: via empowerment en eigen kracht naar participatie en van zorg en ziekte (zz) naar gezondheid en gedrag (gg). De huidige ontwikkelingen hebben een lange voorgeschiedenis. Al in 2010 verscheen de discussienota ‘Zorg voor je gezondheid!’ van de Raad voor de Volksgezondheid en Zorg. En sinds de Troonrede van 2013 lijkt ‘participatiesamenleving’ in de politiek hét woord van het jaar 2013. Maar wat betekent het eigenlijk? En wat gebeurt er met de mensen die niet volledig kunnen participeren zoals de overheid dat voor ogen heeft?
