In den vergangenen Jahren haben der Stellwert der Katheterablation von Vorhofflimmern und parallel die Untersuchungszahlen immer weiter zugenommen. Nachdem initial Daten bezüglich der Komplikationen dieses Eingriffs nur anhand von Umfragen und Berichten einzelner Zentren vorlagen, sind jetzt ICD-Code-basierte Analysen der Komplikationsraten verfügbar: Insgesamt ist die Komplikationsrate im Verlauf der letzten 10 Jahre leicht gestiegen; die Rate an akuten Komplikationen beträgt 6,3 %. Die häufigsten Komplikationen sind kardiale, gefolgt von vaskulären, respiratorischen und neurologischen Komplikationen. Risikofaktoren für eine höhere Komplikationsrate sind ein hohes Alter > 80 Jahre, weibliches Geschlecht sowie weniger routinierte Untersucher bzw. Kliniken.
