Problems of shipbuilding science at the current stage of Arctic exploration

The authors analyze problems that arise for shipbuilding science at the current stage of the Arctic’s development. The production and transportation of mineral resources in the Arctic and offshore shelf regions and the development of commercially attractive Arctic transit of heavy-tonnage vessels require new engineering solutions, focused on ice conditions, as well as the revision of many traditional approaches to and standards of ice machinery. It is possible to solve these problems only in cooperation between representatives of applied and basic science.
