A range of problems regarding the effectiveness of adhesion mechanics is defined. The importance of calculating a rather nonhomogeneous stress-strain state on the boundary of the adhesive-substrate contact that arises in the course of the creation and loading of adhesion compounds is shown. An analysis of strength criteria currently used for adhesion compounds is performed. The problem of characterizing the contact between the adhesive and substrate is considered. It is concluded that the solution of the stated problems will allow us to explain many experimental results obtained during testing (the long-term strength of adhesion compounds is not discussed here) of various adhesion compounds. © Pleiades Publishing, Ltd., 2009.
