Some new characteristics of experimental observation of the photonic flame effect

The spectral, energetic, and temporal characteristics of the radiation associated with the photonic flame effect are presented. Artificial opal placed on a Cu plate at the temperature of liquid nitrogen (77 K) when irradiated by a nanosecond ruby-laser pulse produces a long-term luminescence with duration up to 10 s with a finely structured spectrum in the anti-Stokes part of the light spectrum. An analogous visible luminescence (manifesting a time delay) appeared in other samples of artificial opal placed on the same plate. In opals infiltrated with different nonlinear liquids, the luminescence threshold was reduced and the spatial distribution of the light in a bright emitting area on the opal surface changed. If frozen nonlinear liquids were put on the Cu plate, a long-term bright blue luminescence appeared in the frozen parts of the liquids. The temporal characteristics of this luminescence were similar to the characteristics of opal matrices.
