摘要
In fast breeder reactor, the removal of decay heat is always a challenge during offsite power failure condition and also during beyond design basis events. During such scenarios, the role of Emergency diesel generator (EDG) is vital as a source of onsite power supply to support reactor safety functions. The generator must be capable to run in the harshest environments even during a fire. Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor (PFBR) EDGs are having water-based fire protection, which is a unique feature in Nuclear Power Plants of India. It becomes necessary to design EDG having a capacity 4.5MVA that shall function even under fire and during firefighting action. To meet the above criterion, the design of enclosure for alternator is critical and was a challenge. The engine and alternator after manufacture were tested to simulate real time firefighting conditions. The test results were extraordinary, and same was verified at works and implemented in the plant. This paper covers the efforts taken to realize the integrated design and successful implementation of water sprinkler system for EDGs in PFBR. © 2021, The Institution of Engineers (India).
