A university leader selection novel intelligent system based on Fuzzy-AHP and PROMETTEE II

Selecting the best university leaders is a complex decision problem that requires taking many conflicting criteria into account and involves human perceptions and judgments. Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) methods are used address these challenges with two or more MCDM methods to compensate for the shortcomings of any particular method. This research presents a novel intelligent system based on integrating the Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process (F-AHP) with Preference Ranking Organization METhod for Enrichment of Evaluation (PROMETHEEII) to help select best Egyptian university leaders. To evaluate candidates for university leadership positions, main selection criteria are categorized into sub-criteria: managerial and leadership expertise, Education and student activities, Efficiency and scientific and research activities, University and community activities, Charisma and Age. Main criteria weights are calculated using F-AHP. The obtained weights are included in PROMETHEEII calculations to rank the candidates and select the best of them. The proposed system’s great flexibility allows it to address a large number of qualitative and quantitative criteria at the same time. Although the proposed system provides a specific solution to the problem of selecting best candidate, it can also be viewed as a decision-making model in cases where decision-makers have to take the opinions of many people into account, especially in different selection problems. The findings show that the integrated approach proposed results in improved the efficiency and accuracy of university leadership selection decisions. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Bharati Vidyapeeth's Institute of Computer Applications and Management.
