Corticosteroids are used widely in maxillofacial surgery.Psychosis may result from brief corticosteroid regimens.Consultant surgeons may exercise holding power to keep 'at risk' patients in hospital.Input from a consultant psychiatrist is vital to ensure a satisfactory outcome.
