Kinetics of Dissolution of Gadolinium Oxide in GdCl3–KCl Chloride Melt According to Raman Spectroscopy Data

The chemical mechanism of dissolution of gadolinium oxide in the GdCl3–KCl melt was established by in situ Raman spectroscopy. The change in the normalized intensities of the vibrational bands was used to determine the kinetic parameters of the chemical reaction. It was found that the concentration of the reagent (gadolinium oxide) decreases exponentially with time by a reaction of first order in Gd2O3. It was shown that the introduction of gadolinium oxide into the melt in an amount exceeding its solubility leads to the formation of solid-phase gadolinium oxychloride GdOCl.
