VAAM-Innovationspreis 2021 Among chemicals, vitamin B2 is one of the best examples to show the development from early strain improvement via classical mutagenesis to modern metabolic engineering approaches. Within less than 15 years, a complete shift from chemical to exclusive biotechnological production was achieved resulting in a more sustainable and cost-efficient process. Optimization potential is still seen via rational strain improvement as well as bioprocess engineering. © 2021, Springer-Verlag GmbH.
