Reliability of eddy current inspections of welded aluminum alloy plates

摘要
The paper presents the major results of a research program funded by the Italian National Research Council (CNR) and conducted by the Department of Aeronautical and Space Engineering of the Politecnico di Torino together with the Alenia Spazio thermo-mechanical laboratory of Torino. The reliability of the Eddy Current technique in detecting notches produced through Electrical Discharge Machining on 2.5 mm samples of welded aluminum sheet using a Tungsten Inert Gas technique was investigated. Results are presented in the form of Probability Of Detection curves and the corresponding lower 95% confidence Limits.
