摘要
Industry and researchers are constantly looking for ways to reduce the use of cutting fluids because of ecological and economical reasons. This paper investigates machining of AISI 4140 steel with minimum quantity lubrication (MQL). The study compares the performance of MQL to completely dry cutting for turning of 4140 steel. The results show that there is a significant reduction of cutting force, as well as improvement in surface finish while machining with MQL compared to dry cutting. Chip morphology study reveals that the cutting temperature is less with MQL cutting compared to dry cutting.
