摘要
This paper presents an overview of the challenges in modelling ice gouge process and pipeline response to it. It discusses possible ice gouge scenarios observed in various parts of the world. It presents guidelines for the formulation of a well posed mathematical problem that can accurately represent these processes and it describes issues that are critical in the development of a correct numerical solution algorithm. The requirements for designing scale model experiments to understand the ice gouge process and to validate the numerical models are also discussed.
