Multi-purpose papers for offset, gravure and inkjet printing

Topic of this contribution is the production of a multifunctional coated paper by application of thin (0, 8-2, 5 g/m(2) per side) reactive layers based on modified silicates. Special cross linking agents are used in the coating colour instead of classical bindrs providing a high bonding strength. The multifunctional paper is produced on a film press, using up to 100% recycled fibre-based base paper and production speeds of up to about 1700 m/min. It offers comparable print quality characteristics for both conventional printing techniques and the specialty paper segment, and combines economic advantages with excellent recycling properties. In particular for the segment of matt and semi-gloss papers, this development of high quality and low-cost coated papers offers many advantages over standard papers.
