THE ADVANTAGES OF USING CRITICAL CHAIN PROJECT MANAGEMENT IN PLANNING CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS

摘要
Developed as a derivative of Theory of Constraints, introduced by Dr. Eliyahu M. Goldratt, the Critical Chain Project Management aims at shortening project duration, better activity prioritization and a more efficient resource management. This method seems to be a viable alternative to the classical critical path planning. The present paper aims at analyzing side by side the two mentioned methods and reaching a conclusion on the advantages that the critical chain project management brings, taking into consideration evidence from both specialty literature and practice. We will also try to conclude on the costs of implementing the critical chain method. We focus in our paper on examples from the construction field, this area being an extra-challenging one for project managers.
