摘要
Future teachers must have a proper command of elementary mathematics when they start their degree in Primary Education. As they complete years, said command should improve. In order to explore these assumptions, second and four year students (during three consecutive academic years) were asked to do the test that candidates have to pass to become a teacher in the Region of Madrid. Out of 326 students, only one answers correctly the 15 questions, less than 20% of second year students pass (this is applicable to all the academic years surveyed) and for women pass rate is 15%. In the fourth year one in two men and one in four women pass. In the three years students pass the blocks on numbers-statistics and fail means-geometry. Although in the fourth year the percentage of students who pass is twice that of the second year, pass rate is over 50% only for men.
