Although mental health treatment outcomes have been studied in clinical trials for decades, outcome assessment as part of health care management is a growing but still underdeveloped field. It is time to turn attention to whether the Lives of men and women differ and whether our outcome measures reflect these differences. Despite the consumer movement, which has heightened awareness about the perspectives from which the outcome is measured, women's treatment outcomes measurement still leaves much to be desired. Women carry out a number of roles related to parenting and homemaking that are far more nuanced than outcome instruments can measure, at least as they are currently constructed Recommendations are given to improve the outcome measurement of treatment for women's mental illnesses.
