摘要
This paper evaluates the trade-off between data compression and visual quality in the context of the end-to-end continuous-target/discrete-processing/continuous-display multiresolution imaging model. It extends the traditional design and assessment of optimal filter banks and lossless decomposition quantization to include the effects of acquisition, reassembly and display. It compares the performance of the new design technique to the prevalent reduction metrics in terms of the loss of relevant information and its corresponding visual effects on resulting image presentation.
