External supervision in multidisciplinary work teams

People with mental health problems require specific treatment and care, provided by trained professionals. Patients diagnosed with personality disorder (PD) often pose a challenge for professionals due to the peculiarities of the problem, management difficulties and intensity of the established therapeutic relationship. Frequently, members of the multidisciplinary team may experience difficulties at work being external supervision a tool based on training, support and care for the professional useful for saving daily work conflicts. In order to quantify the possible effects of external supervision, a pre-post quasi-experimental study was carried out. Seven monthly supervision sessions were held for the work team of Personality Disorders Unit (H. Dr. R. Lafora). Maslach Burnout Inventory scale was administrated obtaining a global medium value, as well as in each of the subscales: emotional fatigue, depersonalization and personal fulfillment, both before and after the end of the supervision. Regarding the Navarro Group Development Scale, the following scores were obtained: 3.66 +/- 0.09 (pre-test) and 3.61 +/- 0.11 (post-test) not obtaining statistically significant differences.
