摘要
Fate of aircraft de-icing fluid (ADF) and propylene glycol when introduced into saturated soils was studied. Bacteria degraded the ADF primary constituent Propylene glycol (PG) and bio-growth significantly reduced hydraulic conductivity (K). Value of K dropped steadily by 1 to 3 orders of magnitude until reaching a steady-state. The biomass growth changed the dispersivity significantly. High concentrations of ADF were found to inhibit bacterial growth, and very little PG degradation. Tests were also conducted in a larger 2-dimensional tank in order to determine the effects of scale and localized biogrowth.
