The extinction spectra of nanometre-sized metal particles (copper, silver and gold) embedded in a phthalocyanine matrix are calculated in terms of generalized Mie theory. The particles are modelled as metal spheres with a phthalocyanine shell. In particular, the effect of aggregation on the optical properties is investigated theoretically, considering planar aggregates of densely packed heterogeneous particles. The comparison with experimental data confirms the importance of considering aggregation effects in the calculation for metal volume filling factors of around 20%.
