These days when a shop gets a job to quote, its more likely to come in as an electronic file than a blueprint, so the shop need to read that file accurately and fast. Though the customer's computer aided design (CAD) system usually creates the parts, computer aided manufacturing (CAM) systems generates the numerical control (NC) operations that make them, so communication between the two is crucial. An integrated CAD/CAM system is developed which lets products move smoothly from concept modeling to production tooling. The software blends digitized data into surfaces and generates toolpaths for roughing and finishing. A positive is machined in an appropriate material for further comfort and function testing.
