摘要：

Monte-Carlo simulations have been used successfully to predict the lifetimes and the variability in the lifetimes of bundles of parallel elements. Good agreement has been obtained between the simulations and lifetimes extrapolated from empirical results for parallel-lay ropes. An increase in the scatter of the elements' lifetimes reduces that of the bundle; similarly, reducing the scatter could significantly increase the lifetime of the bundle.
