The Eldercare Workforce: Who Cares?

Eight years have passed since the Institute of Medicine published Retooling for an Aging America. Yet in examining the unfulfilled recommendations of that report, it is clear that the arc of eldercare workforce reform is wholly failing to keep pace with the arc of eldercare service demand. Innumerable healthcare delivery reform efforts continue to be frustrated by a lack of staff with the skills and attitudes required to bear the weight of those reforms. The authors' intent is to ignite greater urgency for new finance and delivery systems that start with the eldercare workforce, rather than presume it.
