BIOMETRIC CHALLENGES IN EDUCATION

The paper tackles pedagogical and technological perspectives regarding the authentication of evaluation based on a EU project UK/04/BIF/PP LA NT-162. The paper analyzes the current position of the e-learning and related assessment techniques, addressing the relevant socio-cultural issues as well. The pluses and minuses a different authentication modalities using biometric, applications and limitations, as well as the reaction of students and . professors in Romania to the use of biometrics in education are shown as well. The EU project is among the first efforts that deals with a controversial and very actual issue -biometrics in education- and explores the use of emerging technologies to determine a common framework of standards. As a comprehensive overview of biometrics applications and a introduction of the technology,. all in relation to e-learning, addressing both the technological and the societal factors as well as providing case studies the research concludes that biometrics is ready for utilization in e-learning.
