A Novel View Synthesis Algorithm Based on Depth and Texture Consistency

摘要
The possible transmission format of future 3D Television broadcasting systems could be one monoscopic video with its associated depth information. In this case, a high-quality depth-image-based rendering (DIBR) technique is desired at the receiver side to generate multi-view contents. Due to lack of information in monoscopic video, there might induce some factitious artifacts in synthesized virtual views. To reduce the artifacts and enhance the quality of synthesized views, we propose a multi-view synthesis algorithm based on depth and texture consistency. Our algorithm first applies the trilateral filter for depth preprocessing and use isolated pixels and contour noises eliminations in warping process. Afterward, hole regions are recovered by the proposed adaptive order-statistical filter and depth-based texture map refinement. Experimental results reveal that the proposed method can achieve better quality than other conventional methods, which will be a great help for audiences to perceive depth comfortably.
