Non-uniform polling and reservation alternatives for bandwidth management in broadband wireless networks

摘要
In this paper we compare the performance of two TDMA-ATM-based access methods for indoor broadband wireless systems. The first scheme is a non-uniform polling and the second is reservation. Although the non-uniform polling has a lower delay than reservation schemes, it has the the disadvantage of requiring the base station and remotes to switch between receive and transmit modes quickly. A specific reservation-based protocol is presented in this paper which applies bandwidth allocation and admission control techniques in a manner similar to non-uniform polling, The performance of both methods is compared in terms of cell loss rate of delay sensitive applications and the mean cell delay. Furthermore the analysis and formulations that were presented in previous papers are extended to considering the effect of offered load on interference power, channel failure rate, and the channel utilization upper hound under specific guaranteed Quality Of Service(QOS).
