摘要
The sustainability issue of modern infrastructures is an important topic, considering the always -increasing demand of bandwidth and the new requirements coming from the introduction of innovative applications and services enabled by the recent evolution of the hardware platforms and the related control and orchestrator technologies. If the power consumption of hardware platform has been reduced over the time by technological evolution, this is not compensated by the incremental demand of features and performances. For this reason, the only chance to reduce the infrastructure footprint is to put in place optimisation strategies, to guarantee the infrastructure scalability, being able to optimise the energy associated to a certain application, keeping alive only the needed resources for its deployment. Project INTENTO1, focused in the design and development of a large-scale network Cloud infrastructure simulator, reserves a specific focus on sustainability issue implementing a pervasive Power Management Subsystem as VNF instance. Scope of this paper is to report on the first results of this development, describing the key technology selection, the basic architectural approach and the development strategy of this very important feature. Particular emphasis is given to the modelling aspect, taking as a reference the ETSI 203 237 standard
