摘要
Generalization is a common practice in GIS applications in order to reduce detail for efficient visualization It is the process of selecting and representing information of a map in a way that adapts to the scale of the display medium of the map There are a variety of generalization algorithms proposed in the literature In this paper we describe a novel way to use quadric based line simplification (GSlim) [4] by determining the amount of generalization to perform, using the extents of the map, the mean edge length and an external user defined factor within [0,1] Also, we describe ways to selectively generalize visible and out of bounds geometry and effectively handle geometry near the view boundary
