This is the first of a two-part series describing the formulation of a computer-aided simulation of the ring-spinning process, The unique feature of this model is a formalized model of yam breakage in the spinning process, This model takes into consideration specific features of the spinning process, the structure and properties of the control systems, and the dependence on the operator's behavior during changes in the production situation, The model is used to develop a computer-aided simulation and analysis routine connecting variables and parameters of the spinning process on the one hand and process production and yam quality on the other hand. Part I presents the formalized description of the ring-spinning process as a basis for the creation of an interactive modeling system. The three basic levels of the model hierarchy are selected, and a plan of investigation is elaborated, The simulation software was developed by using SIMAN IV and Pascal. The simulation model presented describes the first of three hierarchy levels identified, Part II will present the simulation results.
