"Figure presented" A wavy couple: Hybrid systems that consist of metallic nanostructures and active media, such as semiconductor nanostructures or molecular aggregates, may find interesting applications as nanometer-sized waveguides for light (see picture), ultrafast optical switches, or novel types of nanolasers. © 2010 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
