摘要
An unprecedented number of new antiretroviral therapies for treating HIV infection have emerged. New nucleoside agents, the first generation of HIV protease inhibitors, and nonnucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs) have all been added to the physician's arsenal against HIV infection. In addition, viral load testing makes it possible to monitor the effectiveness of antiretroviral drugs. This combination of new agents for treating HIV infection together with new diagnostic methods for monitoring the effectiveness of therapy have significantly improved the prognosis for today's HIV-infected patient. In this article, current strategies as well as some future directions for HIV treatment are reviewed.
