Quantum oscillations of two-dimensional to two-dimensional tunneling in bilayer electron gases in tilted magnetic fields

摘要
We present a linear-response theory of magnetoquantum oscillations of tunneling conductance between two quasi-two-dimensional layers of electron gases in equilibrium in tilted magnetic fields. Charge-balanced (i.e., symmetric) and charge-imbalanced (i.e., asymmetric) layers are considered. While interlayer resonant tunneling occurs only between the Landau levels with the same quantum number in a purely perpendicular field (B-perpendicular to) in the growth direction, off-diagonal tunneling is induced by an additional in-plane field (B-parallel to) owing to the B-parallel to-induced relative displacement of the centroids of the harmonic (i.e., Landau) wave functions of the two layers. Quantum oscillations of the tunneling conductance are studied as a function of B-perpendicular to and B-parallel to in a tilted field. The result is shown to reduce to a previously established expression in the limit of a purely in-plane field. [S0163-1829(98)07015-5].
