In this paper, we review the evidence on the relevance of sexual preferences for the assessment and treatment of sexual offenders. We conclude that there is limited value to phallometric assessments and that the modification of sexual preferences may not be essential to effective treatment. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd.
