The stress of inflammation induced by infectious disease, active autoimmune inflammatory processes and accidental or operative trauma is associated with a coordinated complex series of adaptive reactions involving the immune, nervous, and endocrine systems. This orchestrated response to inflammatory stress is facilitated by a number of factors.
