Fuzzy logic-based map matching in intelligent traffic navigation

摘要
In this paper, a new real-time map-matching algorithm based on fuzzy logic is proposed. Three main factors affecting the reliability of map matching are first discussed, including the distance between the vehicle location and the matching road segment, the angle between the vehicle direction and the road segment direction, and the road connectivity. Fuzzy rules for the distance, angle, and connectivity are then presented to calculate the matching reliability. Two indicators for estimating the matching reliability are further derived, which are the reliability lower limit and the limit error of the difference between the maximal and the second-maximal value of reliability. A real-time map-matching system based on fuzzy logic is developed. Through the case studies, the method is tested, and the results show that it is highly beneficial when used to ensure credibility and obtain better results in map matching.
