Aconitum carmichaelii is a widely used traditional Chinese medicine and important source of clinical drugs. The parent roots of A. carmichaelii were investigated resulting in the isolation and identification of five new C-19-diterpenoid alkaloids; 14 alpha-benzoyloxy-N-ethyl-15 alpha-hydroxy-1 alpha,6 alpha,8 beta,16 beta,18-pen-tamethoxyaconitane formate (1), 14 alpha-benzoyloxy-8 beta-butoxy-N-ethyl-13 beta,15 alpha-dihydroxy-1 alpha,6 alpha,16 beta, 18-tetramethoxyaconitane formate (2), 14 alpha-benzoyloxy-8 beta-butoxy-N-ethy13 beta,6,15 alpha-dihydroxy1 alpha,6 alpha,16 beta,18-tetramethoxylaconitane (3), 14 alpha-benzoyloxy-8 beta-butoxy-3 alpha,13 beta,15 alpha-trihydroxy-1 alpha,6 alpha, 16 beta,18-tetramethoxyl-N-methylaconitane (4) and 8 beta,14 alpha-dibenzoyloxy-N-ethyl-13 beta,15 alpha-tihydroxy-1 alpha, 6 alpha,16 beta,18-tetramethoxyaconitane (5).
