摘要
A fragment of the neurocranium of a Pimelodidae (LPB 1143), was found in late Pleistocene deposits of the Carcarana river, Santa Fe, Argentina. In this work, we describe the specimen that we assigned to the extant species Pseudoplatystoma corruscans, constituting the first record of this genus during the Pleistocene. Furthermore, the fossil was included in a geometric morphometric analysis intended to evaluate morphological variation of the neumcranium of the extant species of Pseudoplatytoma of Argentina. The results indicate significant intraspecific variation in Pseudoplatystoma corruscans at the same time that the fossil is within the variation shown by this species. Additionally, the stratigraphy of the Carcarana. and Parana rivers in the area, was studied providing a solid base for the paleontology and future biostratigraphic schemes in Santa Fe.
