摘要
It is almost certain that the future transportation systems will follow a cooperative approach where vehicles become one of the numerous information providers of a very complex multi-agent system. Thus, connecting worldwide vehicles securely and reliably is a pivotal challenge for the next generation of transportation systems. To address this matter, different standardisation entities have been presenting proposals for the so-called cooperative intelligent transportation systems (C-ITS). Therefore, in this paper, we first depict and analyse the safety messages and security profiles of the European standard, ETSI ITS. We study their maximum and minimum size and evaluate their impact on vehicular safety communications. Obtained results suggest that the existing ETSI ITS security solution can negatively impact vehicles' awareness due to significant bandwidth penalty on the wireless medium.
