The role of polymer-filler interphase in reinforcement of elastomers

摘要
The main intention of the present contribution is to gain further inside into the relationship between the disordered filler structures, the polymer dynamics close to the filler interface and the reinforcement of elastomers by nano-structured fillers. We point out that an essential part of the bound rubber around filler particles consists of a layer of immobilized, glassy-like polymer, implying that the temperature- or frequency dependence of the shear storage modulus G' is influenced by that of the glassy-like polymer. Therefore, we expect an Arrhenius-like temperature behavior for filled rubbers above the bulk glass transition temperature. This is demonstrated for carbon black and silica rubbers where typical differences are found between these two types of fillers.
